SUBJECTIVE PERCEPTION OF PEOPLE’S
EMOTIONAL STATES INTERPRETATION PECULIARITIES

SUMMARY:

The paper deals with the issue of examining signs according to which people’s emotional states can be interpreted by an observer: emotional experiences, feelings and their external manifestations (expressive movements, mimics, pantomimicry, voice peculiarities, etc.). The research is aimed at searching for indicators which help observers identify people’s emotions (their strength, modality, diversity, etc.). In order to obtain information about leading features of emotions and their indicators, a method of self-report (writing a non-standardized composition on the topic “People’s Emotions Interpretation”) has been applied. A group of pedagogical university students (n=55) and a group of experienced psychologists (n=12) have taken part in the experiment. The experts (professional psychologists) have been involved in the study because of their profound knowledge in the evaluation process, their high qualification, great experience in professional communication, which provide an opportunity to integrate theoretical knowledge and personal practical experience in the field of other people’s emotions interpretation. As a result of the self-reports content analysis a number of linguistic units describing external manifestations of various emotions have been distinguished. It has been found that perception and evaluation of emotional states are performed according to nonverbal communication characteristics, psychophysical manifestations, its mimic, pantomimic, expressive, behavioral signs, emotional actions, vocal means of expression, etc. When observing other people’s behavior, the students have identified such characteristics as duration, power, speed of emergence, speed of disappearance, frequency of emotions emergence. Among modal emotional characteristics, they distinguished basal emotions: joy, grief, sorrow, hatred, fear, rage. The analysis of the psychologists’ compositions has made it possible to reveal basic descriptors – the groups of semantically close concepts of such modalities as joy, anger, fear, sorrow. These results are indicative of brightness and diversity of their own emotions, and this fact contributes to more differentiated perception and interpretation of other people’s emotional states.

ADVENTUROUSNESS AND RISK IN THE STRUCTURE OF MAKING DECISIONS

SUMMARY:

The paper deals with the analysis of psychological peculiarities of determination as a stable integral personality trait. The research is relevant due to the increase of the need for theoretical and methodological generalization of studies concerning the issue of decision-making, and on the other hand, for the development of applied aspects of investigation of person’s determination. Special attention is paid to the development of the structure and mechanisms of determination functioning, analysis of its components as well as individual psychological features of their variations. 97 persons aged 23-47 divided into groups depending on the adventurousness level (16 respondents with the high level, and 21 persons with the low level) have taken part in the empirical study. The research aim has been addressed using the following methods and techniques: “Multidimensional Determination Scales” and “Decision-Making Inventory” for study and Education, 2018, Issue 9-10 119 ing decision-making characteristics; “Adventurousness Test” and “Risk Components Qualitative Characteristics Inventory” for examining adventurousness and proneness to risk. The results of the carried out correlation analysis of the relationships between the indicators of determination, decision-making and adventurousness and proneness to risk have been presented in the paper. There are positive significant correlation relationships between adventurousness and most indicators of risk proneness, as well as between adventurousness, risk proneness and determination indicators. It has been found that adventurousness acts like a source and cause of making decisions, an initiator of person’s activity aiming to reach a goal. A leading factor determining person’s adventurousness is his or her proneness to risk.

MODERN STUDENTS’ PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALTH FORMATION
IN THE CONTEXT OF PSYCHOLOGICAL RESEARCH

SUMMARY:

The article presents the review of current scientific ideas about a personality’s psychological health phenomenon. The absence of a common psychological approach to its study is due to various theoretical backgrounds characterizing key ideas regarding the understanding of personality psychology, and personality’s structural identity as well as the relationship between the personality and profession concepts. Psychological health of students is regarded as a personal, dynamic property, the variability of which is due, in particular, to subjectivity in the educational and professional space of modern higher education. The priority is given to the development of students’ axiological attitude towards their health, in the psychological sphere, the importance of activating mechanisms of self-knowledge, self-stimulation, self-realization and self-presentation. It should be taken into account that psychologists have not developed a single criterion approach to the study of psychological health as the most important trait of a student’s personality yet, although there are some “explanatory models”, among which scientists accept those of them which are basically focused on the constructs of adaptation, coordination, spiritual and creative potential fulfillment. Some psychological studies performed by Ukrainian and Canadian researchers of students’ psychological health phenomenon are considered to be rather functional. For example, the Canadian scientists dwell upon depressive symptoms, psychological anxiety, professional exhaustion (burnout), suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts as the criteria for students’ psychological health evaluation. The carried out analytical work has made it possible to substantiate the necessity of further research on the identified issue to study it in the context of psychological health emotional component characteristics as the most important parameter of its completeness.
