ON THE SPECIFICS OF PROFESSIONAL BURNOUT AMONG MARITIME VESSEL CREW SPECIALISTS


SUMMARY:

The article presents the main results of a theoretical and empirical study of the specific features of professional burnout among maritime vessel crew specialists, in particular, among officers and ratings. A review of existing studies indicates that, at present, there are ambiguous theoretical positions regarding the understanding of professional burnout as a psychological phenomenon. The insufficient elaboration of this issue complicates the process of studying burnout and its key characteristics. As for practical underdevelopment, the data available in various sources place greater emphasis on the importance of taking burnout into account when providing psychological assistance. At the same time, insufficient attention has been paid to self-help tools for specialists, particularly in terms of applying various psychological techniques. Given the above, the aim of our study, at the first stage, was to conduct a preliminary assessment of the manifestations of professional burnout among officers and ratings, taking into account their emotional and personality characteristics. The conducted study made it possible to obtain diagnostic indicators of emotional and personality characteristics and their relationship with professional burnout data. In particular, the group of officers demonstrated a lower level of professional burnout, characterized by such traits, as a sufficient level of emotional comfort, emotional stability, sociability, and a high level of behavioral normativity. In contrast, ratings showed an increased level of burnout, associated with reduced emotional comfort, heightened anxiety and tension, as well as a moderate level of emotional stability. Certain scientific and methodological approaches to the prevention and correction of professional burnout were also identified, including organizational measures and various systemic approaches to psychological support and assistance.
