SOCIAL WORK IN GENERAL SECONDARY SCHOOLS AS A FACTOR IN SHAPING APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR AMONG ADOLESCENTS
SUMMARY:
In today’s context of societal transformation, rising social risks, and increasingly complex socialization processes, the issue of fostering lawful behavior among adolescents has become particularly relevant. An analysis of scientific research indicates that the problem of preventing juvenile delinquency is addressed within the fields of social pedagogy, psychology, criminology, and social work. At the same time, the question of defining the role of school social work as a systemic factor in shaping lawful behavior among adolescents requires further consideration. The purpose of this article is to justify the role of social work in general secondary education institutions as a factor in shaping lawful behavior among adolescents and to define its main substantive and functional characteristics. To achieve the set goal, a set of complementary research methods was used. Theoretical methods (analysis, synthesis, generalization, systematization) were applied to study scientific approaches to the prevention of adolescent offenses and to define the essence of school social work as a factor in shaping lawful behavior. The systemic method ensured the consideration of school social work as a holistic process comprising interrelated components, actors, and levels of influence. The environmental approach was used to analyze the role of the educational environment in shaping adolescents’ behavioral attitudes, while the resource-based approach was employed to justify the need to activate an individual’s internal and external resources. The study found that social work in general secondary schools performs a number of interrelated functions, the primary ones being preventive, educational, corrective-developmental, and coordinating. The preventive function is aimed at preventing offenses and deviant behavior; the educational function – at shaping value orientations; the corrective-developmental function – at overcoming behavioral deviations; and the coordinating function – at harmonizing the actions of all participants in the educational process. The results obtained allow us to assert that social work in general secondary schools is not only a component of the educational process but also an important factor in shaping lawful behavior among adolescents. Its effectiveness is determined by its systematic nature, comprehensiveness, and focus on the adolescent as an active participant in social interaction. Prospects for further research involve experimentally testing the effectiveness of the proposed approaches and developing practical recommendations for their implementation.
