TEACHING ORAL ENGLISH ECONOMIC DISCOURSE TO FUTURE MANAGERS
SUMMARY:
The article deals with the problem of teaching oral English economic discourse to future managers. The notions of
“discourse”, “business discourse”, “economic discourse” have been under study. As to our definition, economic dis-
course is considered as a kind of business communication which takes place in the economic sphere with colleagues,
partners, clients, customers, executives; helps to solve economic problems, to find the ways of settling and overcoming
crises, to work out the strategies of enterprises development, to solve production issues, to make decisions, to influence
the final results of the negotiations, meetings, business talks; takes into consideration cultural factors of economic sec-
tor; and in the process of which discourse competence is being developed. In the paper oral economic discourse which
includes business meetings, conferences, negotiations, briefings, formal presentations, job interviews, economic forums,
congresses, business telephoning has been under thorough consideration. The linguistic characteristics (lexical, gram-
matical, stylistic) of oral English economic discourse have been investigated. The sociocultural peculiarities of oral
English language economic discourse have been singled out, sociocultural norms of English business communication
have been analyzed. The types of work performed when teaching oral English economic discourse oriented at commu-
nicative and discursive skills development in future managers have been offered. It involves such points as: authentic
material selection, teaching stages development (linguo-preparatory aimed at acquiring knowledge of English economic
discourse, language skills formation, linguistic skills development; reproductive and communicative aimed at forming
receptive and reproductive discursive skills of students majoring in economics; professional and discursive aimed at
developing and improving productive professional and discursive skills of students majoring in economics), working
out exercises and communicative tasks corresponding to the defined stages. The results of the suggested types of work
approbation proved their efficiency.
