APPLICATION OF ART THERAPY METHODS FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DIFFERENT LEVELS OF ADAPTATION TO A CRISIS SITUATION


SUMMARY:

The article is devoted to the analysis of psychological characteristics of individuals with different levels of adaptation to a crisis situation and the justification of possibilities for differentiated application of art therapy methods, taking into account their psycho-emotional profiles. At the theoretical level, the feasibility of using the art therapy approach as a support tool in the context of crisis adaptation is substantiated. Based on cluster analysis, three stable groups of individuals with different levels of adaptive response to a crisis were identified: emotionally stagnant-stable, creatively adapted, and overwhelmed by emotional experience.Representatives of the first group demonstrated low levels of stress and posttraumatic growth, with a tendency toward emotional rigidity and avoidance of emotional experience. The second group was characterized by a moderate level of stress and high indicators of growth, accompanied by active use of socio-emotional coping strategies and high reflexivity. In contrast, the third group showed high emotional load, moderate growth, and contradictory coping behavior with elements of overload and frustration.Targeted directions for art-therapeutic support were substantiated for each group: activating practices for those with stagnant adaptation, symbolic-integrative methods for those with a creative-reflective structure, and stabilizing techniques for individuals experiencing emotional overstrain. The proposed classification allows for the personalization of art-therapeutic interventions in accordance with an individual's psychological profile and level of adaptation to crisis.

TRANSFORMATION OF YOUTH VALUE ORIENTATIONS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF THE EXISTENTIAL CRISIS OF THE UKRAINIAN WAR


SUMMARY:

The article describes the impact of the existential crisis on the transformation of the value-semantic sphere of youth under the conditions of martial law in Ukraine. It is shown that value orientations act as a leading mechanism for adapting youth to rethink life priorities, maintain internal integrity and be prepared for uncertain life conditions. The existential crisis, in the context of martial law, is a catalyst for reassessment of goals, goods, ideals and life aspirations, stimulating self-development, reflection, family values, social support, and the urgent need for vital needs for human life. The study included students from various specialties and universities, and it was found that young people with a constructive (high) level of experiencing an existential crisis actively integrate values, priorities, meanings, and their own lived experience into further life practice, forming internal resources that provide psychological stability, support, and the ability to effectively adapt to external changes. Young people at this level demonstrate a high level of meaning-making activity, the ability to transform traumatic experience into a resource for their own growth, effectively maintaining a balance between individual needs and social requirements of modern Ukraine. Transitional (average) level adaptive potential increases with support from external resources – family, social, and institutional mechanisms. At the transitional level, there is a gradual synthesis of new value-semantic guidelines that form the basis for psychological homeostasis and an increase in the ability to overcome life difficulties. The destructive (low) level of living an existential crisis is characterized by the defragmentation of value orientations, the decrease in meaning-making activity, the loss of internal supports, which causes internal anxiety, uncertainty and difficulty in making decisions. Youth of this level need targeted psychological support, support aimed at restoring value-meaning structures, integrating life values   and forming resources for adaptation in uncertain crisis conditions of life. The article emphasizes that the existential crisis during martial law, despite its potential traumatic effect, can serve as a resource for the personal development of modern student youth, the formation of new life strategies, in accordance with the strict requirements of modernity, and can become the basis for psychological and pedagogical programs to support youth.

EMPIRICAL VERIFICATION OF THE MODEL OF RESILIENCE DEVELOPMENT IN ATHLETES


SUMMARY:

The article presents the results of an empirical study aimed at verifying the model of resilience development among high-performance athletes by identifying the interrelations between its main components: motivational, cognitive-emotional, behavioral-resource, and social-resource levels. The study involved 50 highly qualified athletes with experience in national and international competitions. A complex of psychodiagnostic tools was applied, including the Achievement Motivation Questionnaire (T. Ehlers), Self-Evaluation Method (T. Dembo & S. Rubinstein), Coping Strategies Inventory (COPE), Emotional Intelligence Test (N. Hall), Self-Control Scale (R. Baumeister), Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), and the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). The data were processed using Pearson’s correlation analysis (r), which made it possible to identify a system of interrelations among the studied variables. The findings demonstrated that athletes’ resilience is strongly associated with high levels of self-control, emotional intelligence, adequate self-esteem, achievement motivation, and perceived social support. The strongest positive correlations were found between resilience, self-control (r = 0.60), emotional intelligence (r = 0.55), and achievement motivation (r = 0.50). Active coping strategies were positively related to cognitive-emotional and social-resource indicators, while emotion-avoidant coping behaviors reduced the level of resilience. The results confirm that resilience in athletes should be considered as an integral psychological construct formed through the interaction of internal and external personal resources.

THE EFFECT OF A SHORT-TERM INTERVENTION ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF PSYCHOLOGICAL CAPITAL IN UKRAINIAN STUDENTS


SUMMARY:

In the contemporary educational environment, students face high academic, social, and emotional demands. Psychological capital - a resource-based construct comprising self-efficacy, hope, optimism, and resilience - plays a crucial role in fostering academic engagement, reducing stress, and preventing burnout. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a short-term training intervention designed to enhance psychological capital among female students of Ukrainian higher education institutions.The study involved 22 female students aged 18 to 30, randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The intervention lasted 3.5 hours and included cognitive-behavioral, reflective, and positive psychology techniques. Measurements were conducted before, immediately after, and one month following the intervention. Psychological capital was assessed using the PCQ-12 questionnaire.Results of repeated-measures ANOVA revealed a statistically significant increase in hope, resilience, and, partially, self- efficacy one month after the intervention. Optimism increased immediately after training but did not persist over time. No significant effects were found in the control group.The findings support the effectiveness of short-term interventions in enhancing the more “plastic” components of psychological capital. These results provide practical implications for the development of student well-being support programs.

PSYCHOLOGICAL CORRELATES OF EXPERIENCING IRREPARABLE LOSS: EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS


SUMMARY:

The study examines psychological correlates of coping with irreparable loss, focusing on empirical relationships between perceived stress, trauma impact appraisal, and coping behavior in bereaved individuals. In a sample of 35 adults who lost a close relative, friend, or acquaintance during wartime, standardized measures were applied: the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), the Impact of Event Scale – Revised (IES-R), and the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS). Results showed that higher subjective stress was strongly associated with more intense posttraumatic symptoms; notably, perceived stress correlated positively with intrusive memories (r≈0.84–0.97, p<0.01) and overall PTSD symptom severity (r≈0.86–0.97, p<0.01). Moreover, individuals with elevated stress favored emotion-focused coping and less frequently used problem-solving strategies (negative correlation with task-oriented coping, r≈–0.34, p<0.05). The loss of a close relative produced the highest levels of stress and PTSD symptoms, along with predominant emotion-oriented coping, while losing an acquaintance was marked by lower stress and more task-focused coping. These findings underscore the critical role of subjective stress appraisal in grief and the need to foster flexible coping. The study’s practical implication is the support for specialized therapeutic programs that integrate cognitive-behavioral, trauma-focused, and existential approaches to help bereaved clients adapt, process grief, and restore emotional equilibrium.
