MANIFESTATION OF ANTICIPATION ON THE EXAMPLE OF A SPECIFIC CASE
SUMMARY:
The article is devoted to the analysis of the individual psychological characteristics of anticipation as manifested in the life activity of a particular person (based on a specific case).Anticipation is understood as an individual’s ability to predict the course of events with high probability, to foresee the development of situations and their own reactions to them, and to act in advance within a temporal–spatial framework.Based on observation and psychological counseling of a female client who demonstrates a pronounced predictive ability and has a history of early psychological trauma, the study specifies the manifestations of anticipation in her life processes, revealing mechanisms of ambivalence, adaptation, and psychological defense against stressogenic events. A detailed psychological portrait of the client is presented, allowing not only the identification of personality traits associated with predictive capacity but also the determination of potential factors and determinants of her anticipation in the future. The applied psychodiagnostic methods included interviews, observation during psychotherapeutic interaction, and narrative analysis. The results indicate that in this case, anticipation functions as a cognitive–emotional “shield,” reflecting the structural characteristics of identity and serving as a means of anxiety regulation. The paper describes the dynamic transformation of anticipation from a rigid defensive pattern into a consciously integrated and professionally oriented personal resource within the course of a three-year psychotherapeutic process. The importance of an individualized approach to the study of complex psychological functions of anticipation and to psychotherapeutic work involving them is emphasized.
